W1A Series 3 Finale Review
Sadly we have seen the final episode, possibly ever, of the great W1A.
*Please be aware that this review contains spoilers.
I still don't think I'm quite over Anna walking into that glass wall in episode 4 and her following concussion making her talk utter gibberish. Now that's slapstick comedy that's been done 10 times over and then some, but it came absolutely out of nowhere and made me howl with laughter for a good ten minutes. This is one of the main reasons I think I have completely fallen in love with this show (to my dismay I'm relatively new to the show and never watched Twenty Twelve which I genuinely hope to catch up on someday) is that the comedy seemingly comes out of nowhere and is somehow always a surprise - yes you expect the constant "sure, yes, great, love it, totally" comments but yet that still manages to be funny week on week.
Now I don't condone violence but I think it's safe to say that we were all quite pleased when Izzy gave Jack a slap for his constant slagging off of poor lovely Will. Again I wasn't expecting it but I had hoped she would tell him to sod off at some point. But the slap came as a complete surprise as it seemed to with jack and even Izzy herself, although I don't know why he was so surprised he's had that coming since the last series! Unfortunately, it was left up in the air as to whether anything happened between Izzy and Will but at least Jack now knows where he stands and its cleared the way for Will.
Also, left in limbo was the other triangle in the series with Anna, Ian and Lucy. After Anna had invited Ian to LA after telling him she was leaving the BBC for a new job over the pond and subsequently inviting Ian to go along by announcing that she had talked him up to Amazon and they wanted to give him a job too. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Anna after the glass wall incident and her fainting previous to that, even though I think Ian and Lucy would probably be better suited, I was really hoping he'd move to LA with Anna. In the end it was left unclear as to whether Ian went to LA or stayed on at the BBC.
I'm really going into miss W1A and just hope that the writer does choose to do another series at some point in the future as I genuinely think it's been one of the best comedy shows I've seen in the last couple of years. There's honestly not been a comedy show that's made me laugh this much since The Inbetweeners. It seems to be notoriously difficult lately for new comedies to break through and do well so that's why it's all the more a shame that we are losing one of the few great ones that's out there. I just hope there will be another comedy very soon that has me saying "yes, great, love it".
